Marija is an award-winning New York artist with a Degree in Fine Arts from Pratt Institute and a Masters in Art Education with additional studies at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Understanding that knowledge enhances ability, she has studied various artistic disciplines: including sculpture, oil painting, and mixed media, finally choosing watercolor as her primary medium. A member of the National Art League and Associate Member of the American Watercolor Society, she exhibits in New York and Washington DC. Early in her career Marija was an Assistant Instructor at the New School for Social Research and has taught art to groups ranging from early childhood to retiree.
She believes that the elements of art --balance, color, line, shape and harmony are an integral part of nature and internalized within the human spirit and agrees with Arnold Arnheim that "Visual Imagination is a Universal Gift." Art expresses that interaction between the individual and the natural world. It is the artist's role to render this message by way of light and form so that the viewer is involved and welcomed.
Art is a gift to both the artist and the viewer.
