Biography
|
|
James Tormey was born and also lives now in New York City. He has shown his work both in the U.S. and abroad. Tormey exhibited, and had over 12 one-man shows, at a Madison Ave. gallery that he was associated with for over 30 years. His oil paintings are now currently shown in New York at the UPTOWN GALLERY and at galleries around the country.
His work has been reviewed in ART VOICES and AMERICAN ARTIST magazine and has been reproduced as both fine art posters and cards.

Statement

The work combines traditional subject matter with a contemporary interpretation that produces startling images of heroic proportion. Light, both reflected and transmitted, lends the natural objects, which are the artist's subjects, a quality which may evoke in the viewer, a clarity of vision and a delight in the forms of the natural world.
