STATEMENT OF PRACTICE
My main body of work is primarily based on a Scottish theme. The Scottish culture and dialect particularly interest me.
I particulary enjoy drawing the characters that i meet in everyday life and I find their dialogue extremely exciting and have produced a small number of hand made books on this theme.
I enjoy poking fun at the shortbread tin image of Scotland by producing stereotypical images of figures associated with tourists' perceptions of the Country.
The principle of good drawing and observing from life is extremely important to me and I believe that it is only through this that you can achieve quality. I work mostly in sketchbooks, observing the environment around me and recording. I work mostly on location.
I also enjoy producing stylised images particularly suitable for childrens books.
I am currently illustrating a story that I have written and hope to have interest from a publisher once it is completed.
I tend to work mostly in pencil because of my precise way of drawing, but i strongly believe in the use of mixed media and experimental work. I also work in the medium of collage, printmaking and acrylic.
