In my current work, I am exploring issues relating to the fragility of the human body.
How do we reveal truths about our bodies and the external forces that influence them?
Through painting, photography, and sculpture, I have been exploring the interior properties of the body in various states. I intend to portray this through the processes of scarring, binding, trapping, and layering. Representation of blood, fat, flesh, bruises, wounds, and sutures imply death as well as life. How does time create and heal scars? How do we recognize internal scars? How can we look at the exterior and see into the interior? The interior of our bodies is rarely seen or not well understood to most of us, and it is my intention to reveal the interior of the body as holding as much aesthetic weight as the exterior. In doing so, I endeavor to evoke both tragedy and aesthetics, the reversal of truth.
By addressing these issues of the body, I am exploring the limits of my own body as well as the limits of life in general. Also, by concentrating on these issues, I debate whether exterior gaze hold any truth. My work can be seen as a catharsis by which the fears of life and death are alleviated through a new form of understanding.
