Biography
|
Melissa Wagner, originally from Detroit, has been living and working in San Francisco for almost five years. Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan, her background is in Scientific Illustration: the artistic and scientific study of the biological world. Over time these studies have evolved to become larger than life works...paintings are done in acrylic and mixed media, incorporating the living world into most pieces, such as leaves, branches or shells. Ideas are taken directly from nature to reflect upon experiences, travels and emotion.
Melissa is involved with many projects including the Maitri AIDS Hospice, several mural projects within the Bay Area, and ArtSpan, where she has been an active volunteer with the non-profit organization and the Private Preview Committee for over 3 years working on graphic design, signage, and event planning. Her work has been shown in galleries, restaurants, corporate offices, clubs, and retail stores which include The Melting Point, SomArts, The Canvas, Wells Fargo, and the XTHREADZ Showroom. She has participated in San Francisco Open Studios for the past several years and recently completed a residency at the San Francisco Legion of Honor and De Young Art Center.
