Rishi Parikh

Biography
Rishi Parikh, first generation born in America from a family of Gujarati descent from India. Born in Livingston, NJ, Rishi had many influences that shaped his art career, both culturally and geographically. Growing up in multiple locations in the New Jersey suburbs, his first influence of a different world came in his travels to India where he lived with his family at the ages of six and twelve. Accompanied by his parents, Rishi on the first of two trips traveled through India for three months where he viewed his Uncle's marriage and the birth of his younger brother, Ronak. Influenced by these events and his religious family surroundings he began drawing religious architecture and Hindu deities at an early age. The second trip at the age of twelve for three months was equally influential from a social and political standpoint as he for the first time viewed the true plight of a third world country as well as violence during the country's election. In his early teens Rishi started drawing in pencil mostly landscapes both in India and back at his home in New Jersey. At an early age he became interested in nature as well as architecture predominantly influenced by the skyline and architecture of nearby New York City. Enthralled by the unique perspectives and site lines viewed as a child driving through the streets of Manhattan with his parents he started experimenting with perspective drawings. In his later teens his repertoire expanded into various mediums and styles including charcoal, pastel, ink stipple, acrylic and oil painting. The majority of his artwork had an underlying structure very meticulous and detailed in nature. This style was further emphasized following his decision to study Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. At RPI he expanded his knowledge of Architecture and Art and began to fuse technical architectural drawing styles within his artwork. He also was introduced to graphic design and started to experiment with multimedia focusing on composition. As he became more versatile with technical drawing and graphic representation, his artistic style and direction was then impacted by studying abroad in Rome, Italy for five months in 1999. Today the majority of Rishi Parikh's art and artistic style is inspired by and a reflection of two major exhibits in Rome, Italy. First, was the influence of Dali, an exhibit minutes from his apartment in Rome at the Galleria di Piazza Colonna featuring over 500 original artworks including the world's largest collection of Dali Sculptures (1934-1984). The second was an Abstract Expressionist exhibit, E Lo Spiritualismo Russo, featuring "Russian Avant-garde" artists, Kandinsky, Chagall and Malevich at Palazzo Forti in Verona, Italy. Following his studies in Rome, Italy and Troy, NY his art has been influenced by his varying urban residences in New York, Baltimore, Washington DC and most recently four years in Las Vegas, NV. Today his paintings, drawings and graphic art are a representation of his Architectural background coupled with his diverse residences and interests in the Surrealistic and Abstract Expressionist movements.
