Biography
|
Born in Cortez, Colorado in 1948, Denny moved to Littleton, Colorado in 1961, where he graduated from High School in 1966. Migrating to Crested Butte in 1968, Denny?s interest in art was sparked. He began creating carved furniture and soon it evolved into his passion for sculpting in wood.
Denny is a self-taught sculptor, but as he says, ?? had a good teacher.? In 1975 he moved to Denver where he worked intensely at his art and studied art by visiting many galleries, museums, and libraries in the Denver area.
Eventually the demands of life forced Denny into the mainstream. Moving to California in 1981, Denny fine-tuned his carpentry skills for the next twenty years, all the while never putting down his carving tools continuing to sculpt when time permitted.
In 2002 Denny and his beloved wife returned to Colorado and are now residing in the Black Forest near Colorado Springs. Denny spends his days now totally devoted to his passion-sculpting. Wood has always been Denny?s medium of choice.

ARTIST?S STATEMENT
Everyone is an artist in their own right. Some choose to express themselves in "the arts" and so become known as "Artist". To the extent that they suffer through the unknowns and uncertainties of creativity is the measure of their greatness. The desire to create far outperforms "talent" - it takes hard work and persistence to develop a body of work worthy of "Artist". And for most, the work is resisted by a cultural/social invisible wall. Therefore a full measure of self is required to be an artist and even then there are no guarantees of success.
In this day and age good marketing is essential to reach the art collector. The art collector is a very special being because he/she possesses the ability to exult in another's passion, and provide the exchange of wherewithal that makes it possible for the artist to stay his course.
Good art is an enterprise of the individual. Great art rarely comes from collaboration. But at the same time no artist can make it strictly on his own.
