Biography
I painted with my dad and twin brother, starting around age six. I was inspired by Mr Rempel at Downey High School to explore juxtaposition and rhythm. I was encouraged by Mr Elgart and Mr Amato at UCLA to be original, try anything, and turn out lots of work.

Statement
I have always studied the elements that make a painting great. These include the relation of objects, shapes, lines and spaces; and their juxtaposition toward the surface and boundaries. They also include the relation of colors, no matter if pretty or ugly, but certainly a relation that is new, comfortable, or inspiring. Rhythm, which is repetition of line, shape and color, is also important to the painting. Balance, which is comfort, or if uncomfortable, at least with justification so as not to be unfinished, or a mistake, is essential. The studies of these elements goes on whenever a painting is reviewed, whether one by a traditional master, or one in a magazine or on the Web. I particularly study my own paintings, to learn and progress, free to make corrections. This applies during the painting process, as well as when I review what I've done. I choose the subjects of my paintings from slices of life around me, tailored by experience and imagination. But these slices, at all costs, must remain subservient to the elements that make a painting great.
