New Art International Press Says:
With a talent for causing his viewers to feel within his paintings,Arif Esen Baykurt draws upon textures of life from Middle Eastern street scenes and backdrops to set a tone for his studies of human experience and atmospheric context. An elegant sweep of authenticity graces the flawors of his treatment of light and form.
Agora Gallery says:
Arif Esen Baykurt's hopeful and humanistic works encourage us to think about the potential of the human spirit to reach beyond cultural constraints. He depicts figures within diverse walks of life. These subjects display emotion to which all may be sympathetic. Figures are usually marked with subtle reminders of their existence in a distant land or their isolation from a convenient modern life. His powerful paintings depict the weathered faces of the aging that seemed trapped within a centuries old culture. Baykurt's work is very much about the relationship between a culture and its people. His work contains cultural signifiers from the Near East and Egypt. These pieces of architecture and land depict places untouched since biblical times. Within this environment Baykurt portrays the lives of those unaffected by the modern world. These lives appear integral to their ancient environment and romanticized by their storybook setting.
