Statement
|
In 2002 I began working with clay, throwing shapes, altering surfaces and experimenting with glazes. Two years later I discovered that painting in acrylics allowed me to work more spontaneously, and gave me better color control. I try to represent my response to natural features in an abstract way. My paintings start with an idea, but I go where the paint takes me. Most paintings have at least five layers, and some many more before I feel they are complete. Textural additives to the paint create further references to nature. My goal is to convey my passion for our colorful, multi-layered environment, and in some cases to use depictions of empty space to highlight what we are losing as the world's population grows.
