Biography
|
Anne Gifford has resided in Boulder, Colorado since 1976. She attended Syracuse University for two years and then transferred to the State University of New York at Geneseo, receiving a B.F.A. magna cum laude in 1975.
After learning to silkscreen print at various tee-shirt printing studios, Anne decided to apply her skills to her own limited edition serigraphs. Since 1978, she has produced over 150 images, many of which are inspired by the local, majestic scenery which attracts so many of us to this area. At times she takes a break from her landscapes to indulge in a purely whimsical print inspired strictly by her imagination.
In 1995, Anne began working in watercolor, and this remains her media of choice today. Always the printmaker, she now makes her own limited edition archival giclee prints from her paintings in her South Boulder studio. She first scans the image into her computer, and then meticulously adjusts the colors until the print and the original are almost indistinguishable.
Anne enjoys teaching watercolor classes in her studio, at local elementary schools, and to the elderly.
Whether you have lived in Boulder for years, are a recent transplant, or are just visiting, you won't have to look far to see examples of Anne's art in the community. Besides having won awards in a multitude of local juried art shows, she has been in the public eye of Boulder for many years.

Statement
|
I have been creating art of some kind since childhood.
After silkscreen printing extensively for 25 years, I am now concentrating on watercolor and pastels.
I get a great deal of inspiration from walking and hiking, and I always am on the lookout for new imagery. When I create a landscape, sometimes I feel as though I am recording the natural beauty surrounding us today for future generations who may not have the opportunity to enjoy it in person. I hope this will not be the case.
When not painting landscapes, I turn to creating whimsical images of various scenes from my imagination. These can range from portraying the quiet corners of people's lives to cartoon like characters who have resided in my mind for a long time.
I love doing both the landscape and the whimsy. I aim to make those that see my art experience the happiness I felt as I created it.
