This painting depicts how women have to work hard to achieve their ambitions in life and to how they have to fight to get recognised.

experienced a sleepless night when ideas or problems keep churning around
the mind until sleep finally takes over. On waking the problems are often
solved or the ideas have evolved, as if by magic, and it is then these
thoughts are turned into actions and 'Break Out!'.

As human beings on this earth we watch and admire the many natural aspects around us and at the same time believe that we create our own destiny, our own future, but this is not so as there are other controlling forces.

At the top of the painting you may be able to identify a blue silhouette of an angel like figure looking at a landscape, she represents both Mother Nature and also the Heavens above that are their own masters (or mistresses). They are both watching and controlling the future of the earth in it's entirety and should be not taken for granted.

A bowl of fruit is similar to life itself, with each piece of fruit offering itself to us to sample experiences in life before the chances disappear. Some things will be bitter and some will be sweet. Memories of bitter experiences will fade and disappear like the rotting fruit. Sweet experiences grow and multiply as you share those thoughts with others. Just like the good fruit tree producing a crop year after year.

The fruit also represents time span, as a bowl of fruit is like life itself it is not constant. You place the bowl of fruit on the table and admire in its full glory. As time goes on the fruit is taken and when it is, the other pieces move or fall into another position. As each piece of fruit is taken away it becomes a faded memory. As time goes on the bowl becomes empty except for perhaps some forgotten rotting fruit, which is then dispensed with. The bowl is washed out and filled up again with fresh fruit. Such is life with time and fragility

This painting is part of a series of still life depicting the artists'

This releases the harness and gives you the freedom to express yourself without any limitations. This concept is similar to how children paint with no boundaries using any material they are given. There is no right or wrong way.

I painted `Sitting Pretty' to illustrate how women are expected to be many things - the role of being wife and mother, looking good and conveying the right image. Within this realm of what is expected we all have desires and things we want and do, of course my passion is painting.

I started `Sitting Pretty' drawing the inner head, that represents the true self and inner desires, and then the outer body developed representing the outer self that depicts other's expectations of you. In the same series, movement and energy is conveyed with colour.

To Sketch, to Draw, to Paint is Life Itself (1)

This painting is part of a series of still life depicting the artists' tools.

To Sketch, to Draw, to Paint is Life Itself (2)

This painting is part of a series of still life depicting the artists' tools.
