That's him in the background. Isn't it strange how he still manages to dominate? The faeries are my 'lodgers.' No wonder I keep finding knots in my hair! They are very mischevious and like to play tricks.

I was not allowed to do scary faeries so this is the pretty variety. They are out there. While I was working on this piece I had I dream that I was dancing with them. At first it was wonderful, like nothing I have ever experienced, and the speed was incredible. But as it went on forever and ever I wanted to escape. But I could not. I was trapped within the dream and it was terrible. Finally they let me go (to finish the painting I suppose) but I was ill. I think this painting is best viewed from a distance, as are the fae themselves when involved in their revells. Get too close and you may be drawn in... You have been warned.

Gothic Faerie

Based on the description from green_day_gurl_'s Elftown Ideal Interpretation contest. Done for the ElfTown 'It takes 2 (two)' Contest with Emily Carding-Allen. It's supposed to look like her but I'm not sure that it does, but then I don't really think of her as a Banshee! (Bet you're glad, aren't you Em?) This is one of those pictures that took a lot of research before it was all put together. It is a combination of Banshee and Washer Woman Mythos which are sometimes connected. The Banshee is said to stand on the roof scream to fortell the death of someone inside. Sometimes they are portrayed as evil, but that isn't really true. It is believed that they may be ghosts of loved ones crying in hopelessness at a death which they cannot prevent. Thus the tear. It is in Irish Mythology that Banshees wear green and it obviously looks better against the red background. I had endless fun dribbling paint down this one in order to make it look like blood. The cloth in her hand is the Washer Woman connection. The washer woman is said to wash the blood stained clothes of a person who is soon to die. Altogether a tragic piece. Emilys' half of this is myself as a Gorgon.

Emily Wyrmkind

My good friend Emily and I did a fantasy art exchange together, doing portraits of each other as fantasy creatures. She wanted to be a dragon lady. I have always found her a very caring person so this is what I portrayed. A tender moment among dragons is a rare and wonderful thing.
She in turn drew me as a Dryad.

Arcade

College work, an expression of my rage at the closing of the Silver Arcade in Leicester as well as a sad appreciation of all the great times I've had there

Cley Windmill

A commission piece

The Dark and The Dawn

This strange being just leapt into my head one night. It is a faerie, running along at dawn with a cloak that reflects the sky streaming out behind it. It runs swifter than any mortal, and holds a single jewel-bright droplet of dew in its fist. With this watercolour painting I wanted the effect that I was painting a landscape and this fae just happened to run across it. I think the background would stand up on its own, but for sure it would not have the same effect. I love this one. It is just so strange and mysterious you cannot be sure if it means to help or harm.

This particular Elf thinks Mans obsession with his race has gone a touch too far. 'Pink is not my colour,' he growls. See the little green faerie? This is the responsible party. I think it took offense to a comment like 'I'm an Elf, not a Faerie,' and has done its best to undermine that statement.
