The wind is the singer who sang the first song
This is 16"x21" Charcoal illustration on Canson Mi-Teintes paper.

This is the fifth drawing of the Ireland series. Even though none of the reference pics or model were from Ireland, the inspiration came to me while visiting Ireland.

Standing outside one night while visiting Malahide Ireland, I noticed how quiet and peaceful the night times were in Ireland. I looked up into the sky to notice drifting clouds and a full October moon. The only sound that I heard was the gentle wisping of the wind. I memory of my childhood came over me of my parents listening to music one evening as the often did. The lyrics to John Denver's Windsong ran through my mind. A song I haven't heard for over 30 years and to still remember the lyrics so clearly, seemed like a sign.

They have a lot of old interesting trees in Ireland. Some unique looking trees remain in farmed fields. They are believed to be Fairy Trees and to cut down a Fairy Tree is bad luck. So that's why if you see a farmed land and there is a lonely tree in the middle, its bad luck to cut it down.

Trees in dreams symbolize new hopes, growth, desires, knowledge, and as well as life. To see a bare tree in your dream indicates used up energy. You have put your all into some relationship or project and now are exhausted. Alternatively, the dream signifies the cycle of life or the passage of time. The use of charcoal creates the illusion of a dream. The birds flying over head, represents the living world.

The Dark Hedges is a section of trees that grows in Antrim County, Ireland. It was 12 miles from Ballycastle. These trees are said to be 300 years old. It reminds me of something you would see in Sleepy Hollow.

This is a 21"x16" Charcoal drawing on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. This was created to donated to the Children's Miracle Network in Hershey PA for their silent auction at their annual "The Miracle Ball" on November 17,2012

Children's Miracle Network Hospitalsr is an international non-profit organization that saves the lives of children by raising funds and awareness for more than 170 children's hospitals. Children's Miracle Network benefits Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital and serves the Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York region. Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $44 million since it began in 1984. Funds raised stay local to help to purchase life saving equipment and support vital patient programs, services and pediatric research at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.

When creating this piece, I did not want to portray sorrow or pain, but concern. I wanted to be eye catching, so the intent was to make it in my traditional style of black and white, but this time to add blue just to the eyes. I felt the eyes were a direct focal point anyways but wanted to really throw it over the top by adding the color to them only.
