The figure, which looks like a fat little angel, has an almost 3D feel to it, as opposed to the flatness of the pattern. The empty background underlines the `fullness' of the figure; the busy, colourful inside clashes with the simple, empty outside; work playing with high contrasts.

Wild Fruit

Drawing kept as simple a possible, no colour or background, only the vivacity of wild, black lines - the wild fruit of imagination...

This `two drawing in one' allows to have a multitude of lines, yet it does not get too confusing for the eye, as only the red really stands out. Distortion and unrealistic forms are the aim as long as the composition as a whole feels right.

Halfway 2 Heaven

Distortion of the body proportions. I love the lines of the body, weather beautiful or ugly: especially the spine (and the behind) can produce beautiful curves, which suits the sinuosity of my drawing very well.

Pretzel Babe

The picture is made out of pretzels and kitchen cloth. I love to experiment with materials.I had the idea of using pretzels, which are a popular item in the supermarkets here in London. I also liked the colour combination of brown and blue, and as I had to somehow give the figure some substance, I used some of my kitchen cloth. The lines of the figure are very simple here, which is due to the collage work.a bit like a `pretzly' Matisse.

Boogie Nights

Body curves - body movement combined with the theme of contemporary city life, the nights out, the clubbing and pubbing, the girl about town.

Sexy Girls

Work celebrating the comeback of the famous bunny girl in London clubs, reminiscent also of the notorious playboy bunny. The figure is a drawing, whereas the text is a mixed media collage of Russian letter cake.

Love Parade

Parade dancer in movement; contrast between a maze of body lines and flat coloured surfaces; the power of the figure is reinforced by its shape, occupying most of the support; the forms are not contained within the picture frame, but exceed the surface limit.

Bubble Bath

The very simplified and loose body lines contrast with the more compact, geometrical background. It is naughty, but the high degree of abstraction probably limits the `overflow'.

Miss Twiggy

This drawing was done in one movement, without looking at the paper and without undertaking any corrections after the initial sketch. Very abstract, the body reminded me of that of an insect or animal.or an expressionistic Miss Twiggy.

In Full Feather

Inspiration is everywhere. Popular culture, street life, folklore, travelling, opera, ballet, theatre, daily life experiences and observations, including the notorious humour of the Anglo-Saxon culture. When I arrived in London, I noticed the importance of the pin-up or page-three-girl in the newspapers.having created a substantial body of work on this theme, I still work on the subject-matter from time to time, as it represents a good opportunity to work on the body, drawing and form.

Beach Girls

Drawing-study of pure line, form and simplification. I made a first figure drawing in beige, but as I wasn't completely happy with it, I made a second drawing on top in dark red, which I found good. I like to combine two drawings like this - one light, one darker, as they complete each other and the first drawing adds to the vibrancy of the second.

Sundance Kid

Contrast between line and surface, the active and the more static. The colour yellow reminds one of the sun and something sunny, so the figure could only be a Sundance kid.

Groovy Chick

A body in motion, a dancing body. With simplified forms, the drawing pushes towards abstraction, yet `doodley', `superfluous' lines maintain vibrancy and liveliness.

Red Light Zone

Work made in relation to a scene witnessed in Holland: sitting on a train that drives past a red light zone, I can remember all these women in full gear (or not) posing at a long row of windows and trying to sell their charms. I also remember this very bright light shining in each window. When I made the work, I decided to use doyleys for the stockings, suspenders and shoe, as this material looks very much like lace... simultaneously one also thinks of `cake', `eating', `enjoyment'...

Taurus

Drawing of a male with very compact forms.I didn't try to emphasise the body volume of the model, who was quite muscled, but even after repeated trials the lines - my hand - just kept drawing a voluminous shape; and I thought why not, something a bit more massive, like a little Greek god in exaggeration.

Spider-Finger-Hand

The drawing was made after an old, battered and very expressionistic looking hand. Instead of using paper as a support, I drew on quilt to reinforce the impression of roughness and the thousand little and larger wrinkles of the skin. I noticed before starting the drawing that the form of the human hand, and especially this person's hand, has similarities with that of spiders...the finished drawing confirmed this, looking like a giant tarantula!
The quilt is mounted on canvas.

For Your Thighs Only

Body meat: thighs are an interesting and erotic subject matter, coming in all shapes and sizes. The photograph that I used for this drawing had a very good - yet decent enough - perspective, which I could not resist.
