Gigi Boyd

Biography
Hi, my name is Gladys Trahan Boyd and was born in October of 1968. I prefer to go by the nickname, Gigi, which is a name my dad had given to me when I was a child, and has stuck with me all these years.

I was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, USA and am of Cajun-French and American Indian descent. I am the 3rd to youngest of 14 children, married since 1997 and have 4 children of my own.

I am a self-taught, left-handed pencil artist that has been interested in art since the age of eight.

As a child, I began drawing simple outlines of cartoon characters from children's story books. As I got older, I gradually started to add more detailing into my sketches, and adding color to my portraits.

My choices of mediums to use are: pen, pencil, colored pencils, oil pastel and watercolors.

My favorite medium to use is just a plain 'ole 2B pencil. I find the sharper you keep it, the more detailed the work can be!

Although I can really draw anything imaginable, and design my own work, I usually tend to enjoy working from any type of photograph of any size.

My favorite subjects to draw are faces of celebreties and movie fan art from dvd covers.

When it comes time to drawing a portrait, the eyes and lips are my most favorite part of the entire sketch.

A bust portrait may usually take me an hour or two to complete.

My main goal is to open my own art studio and be a very well known cajun artist here in Opelousas, La., which is where I now reside.

Thank you for taking time to read my biography. If possible, please also take the time to sign my guestbook before leaving. It would be nice to hear from you!

Statement
My hobbies and interest include:

pencil art, woodburning, carpentry and woodworking, photography (black and whites especially), gardening, observing wildlife and nature, tracking storms and watching storms "brew", I just love listening to the sound of rain and thunder and watching the clouds roll in...but nothing too drastic, crocheting, quilting, textiles of all sorts, and handmaking my own arts ~n~ crafts.

I enjoy collecting tigers, roses, procelain dolls, handmade quilts, any antique or intricate needleart, postage stamps. I am more less just a "jill-of-all-trades" at heart!

~Thanks for browsing my work and I hope you have enjoyed your visit!

Exhibitions
The largest size of my original freehand artwork I have done was of a tiger's head (which is listed here). It was drawn using pen, pencil, markers, and oil pastels. This piece of work (mural) was drawn on 9 poster boards that were taped together and is now being used as a mural in my home.

I have not taken any art classes of any kind except during my high school years as an elective, and then, I was even too advanced for the classes. I have only won one art contest, which was in 1984-85 when I was in the 10th grade. "Couple Dancing" won second place in the city Sophmore Division at the local college in Lafyette, LA. This piece of artwork is posted in my gallery and is my "prize posession" that I will never let go of!
