Biography
|
My name is Abir Selah, known as Abi.? I was born in 1979 lived and studied the majority of my life in London. After graduating from an Architecture degree, I went to study Drawing & Painting and also studied Accountancy. Painting has always been a large part of my life and I have always had the passion for it since childhood.? I mainly painted landscapes and waterscapes using oil paints.
I am inspired most by the leading impressionist artists, Monet, Pissarro and Van Gogh.? The way their brush marks forms an outstanding image that captures the short lived moment, the delicate quality of the sky and sea and the unique subject maters that reflected their life's journey.
The mediums I often use are oil paints, acrylic and chalk. My paintings are full of colour and life, having a sense of liveliness in my brushwork. I mostly build up texture using a variety of quick, short and thick brushstrokes of paint to capture the essence of a subject rather than its details.
My passion for the landscape and waterscape is rooted to memories from the various places around the world visited with my family through out my childhood.? More than 11 of my original paintings were sold to privet collectors since 1995. My first sold piece of work was at the age of 16. Have also done a couple of commissioned work for a school.
My work has been exhibited in various galleries in England. Selections of my paintings were exhibited at the London Underground Station (Kingsbury Station) in 1996.? A piece of my work was also selected by the national spinal injury charity for its national Christmas card campaign in 1998.
