I was born in Carlisle in 1960. My Father was in the army so spent most of my youth moving house. Was really only good at three things at school, football, technical drawing and art. I took A' level; art but I am afraid that my interests were more in socialising than working - and my grades bore testimony to that fact. There was talk of art college, but the thought of yet more years of full time education and no money didn't really appeal - so I went to work on a farm. Eventually joined the Royal Marines, did my bit for Queen and country through the eighties, then joined the Fire Service. Left the Brigade to move to Orkney in 1996 and have worked as crew on a creel boat, managed a salmon farm, and until last year worked as part of a security team in and around Westminster and The Treasury in London. Now gone full circle and finally think feel that what I am doing is right for me, I am drawing and painting again. I only hope that my first public offerings of work are good enough to 'cut the mustard'. Time will tell.
