Biography
|
Stephen Lucas is an accomplished fine art painter. He is a native of Los Angeles, California and lived much of his childhood in Malibu. He studied at Ventura College School of Fine Art in Ventura, CA., and McCrady Fine Art School in New Orleans, LA. He began painting in 1979, at the age of 20, but it wasn't until he turned his focus to abstraction that his true artistic vision opened up and took flight. He and Debra, his wife and manager, work together at establishing his career as a successful and influential contemporary fine artist.
With hundreds of collectors from around the world, Stephen's reputation is rapidly growing in an international market.
In 1998, a new dimension was added to his career portfolio when major motion picture studios and national television networks brought his art to film!
Stephen's work is commonly described as vibrant and energetic, or deeply and sensually moving in a way that warms and comforts the spirit. People often express a sense of genuine familiarity when seeing his work for the first time, as if they know him. Stephen says, "To view my art is to know me."
His stunning and compelling paintings are non-representational abstracts in acrylic or watercolor on various surfaces. He says, "When painting, I seem to highly focus and lose my sense of self at the same time. It is this pure fusion between my "surrender" and my "passion" that inspires me to perpetual exploration. We are taught technique and how to see and draw the figurative world, but expression is from the soul and the soul longs for freedom. In expression there are no rules, but there IS truth, and truth can only be found deep within each and every one of us. My art is an expression of the truth about me, my relationship with the Creator and to everyone and everything around me. My work reflects my life; openly and honestly, and my belief that there are infinite possibilities in every situation. This is my language transformed with paint for the pleasure of the viewer!"
" There are in our lives moments of indescribable emotion, words fail us many times, this vision beyond the describable is the realm of non-representational art." Alexander Liberman
Viewing Stephen's art is like brunch at a 5 star restaurant; it's a feast.....for the eye as
well as the soul!

Statement
|
"I love to paint, it IS my passion. After over 40 years creating and observing works of art, I can honestly say that I am my favorite artist. Why not? It is as it should be....being most inspired by one's own imagery keeps the creative process fresh!"
"In art school we are encouraged to enroll in Color and Design 101. I found the class a bit dry, however, in retrospect I see I have mastered just that, the art and technique of color and design. My forte is color, my foundation is drawing!"
Stephen's paintings can be seen in many Television sitcoms/dramas and Major Motion Pictures, such as "Friends," "Will & Grace," etc.
