Statement

East Coast Seascapes
Natural landscapes provided the inspiration for these paintings, particularly limitless horizons and the ethereal qualities of light affecting landscapes and seascapes. I wanted to express the almost meditative sense of calm evoked by the immediate surroundings. The subject matter has also provided a form of escapism that contrasts the possibilities and freedom of infinite space with the confines of city life and is part of the search for a sense of place and belonging.
One landscape holds many possibilities and perspectives. Sometimes dramatic, other times hazy and subdued. I was particularly interested in the overall effects of changing light and the idea of capturing a moment in time.
