Alan Perry

Biography
Alan Perry is a poet, painter and short-story writer, living and working in South Wales. He is a past winner of the Eric Gregory Award for poetry and the Leslie Moore Award for painting and his work has been published and exhibited widely. Among his collections of poetry are "Characters" (1969), "Live Wires" (1970), "Fires on the Common" (1975), "Winter Bathing" (1980) and "To Liu and All Mankind" (which also included stories, 1995). His last two books were "Music You Don't Normally Hear" - a 350 page study of homelessness in Swansea, which he wrote during his time as an Outreach worker for the Cyrenians Cymru and which he also adapted for the stage and "LMNTRE Poems" by Vernon Watkins, which he illustrated. His most recent books are "Dreaming from North to South"", a New and Selected Poems and "Days of the Comet", a New and Selected Stories. More of his paintings, drawings and poems, as well as an interview with Stephen Knight, can be found on his website: http://alanperry.ihwy.com.

Statement
Most of my work relates to my immediate environment, particularly my house and its view of Swansea Bay. My style fluctuates between being illustrative and abstract and often combines elements of both. I am interested in the Chaos Theory and the way in which shapes and rhythms constantly reoccur throughout nature and the universe ('Eternity in a grain of sand...') I usually work in series, producing scores of variations on the same theme, often superimposing one drawing on top of another to achieve a layering effect and allowing in as much accident as possible.
