Don has had a fascination with the west and the people who worked hard to bring about the settlement of America since a child. He was born and raised in Northern Oklahoma just a few miles from the legendary Chisolm Trail that led North to Witchita and Dodge Cily, Kansas.
After two years in the U.S.Army, he returned home to college and a major in art which led to Advertising design and illustration. While earning a salary for himself, wife Sam and son Rion, he always came back to a western painting in his spare time.
Over time the painting has become his full-time passion and vocation. His work is collected internationally, and has been purchased by collectors and celebrities alike, including Burt Reynolds, Tipi Hedron, the late Doug McClure and Kent and Susan McCray, pruducers of "Little House".
He lives and works now in Canyon Country, just north of Los Angeles with work shown in local galleries, and throughout the state. He is fortunate and honored to be invited back year after year to the Cattlemens' Association Annual Show and Sale in Paso Robles, held each April. His work, "The Prarie Poet" was purchased for the first Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival held in Santa Clarita, and is involved in the "Quick Draw" exhibitions.
His work includes landscapes and wildlife of the great American west, along with portraits of horses and their owners, when the opportunity arises. Specailty compositions and commissions are always considered.
