Biography
|
Internationally-recognized, award-winning artist Carol Santora
is best known for her expressionistic and often whimsical animal paintings.
Santora captures the spirit and unique personality of the animals she paints in pastel.
Vibrant colors convey a sense of vitality in her work, while her contemporary style communicates her personal vision.
Although her portfolio includes boat scenes, Santora (BFA, Framingham State College) has loved animals of all kinds since she was a child. Her goal in painting an animal is to capture its essence and express her passion for it with excitement and energy
by pushing the boundaries of color.
At home with several media, Santora is a true colorist, preferring soft pastel because of its clean, intense pigmentation that allows her to create her sensitive, insightful interpretations.
For Carol, each painting begins with a foundation of thorough research that includes site visits to farms and wildlife areas all over the United States. She works from her own photographs and sketches. Carol's work is grounded in representation, yet she is not bound by that. As she works, a completely realistic depiction gives way to a more artistic, contemporary rendering that serves her colorist and expressive purposes.
A signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, Carol has been honored with over four-dozen awards including First Place in Other Media
at the 2008 Susan K Black Foundation Miniature Art Show, Dubois, WY, First Place in Pastel at the 2008 Art Guild of the Kennebunks Annual Award Show,
in addition to several other First Place, People's Choice and Best in Show awards.
Santora's paintings can also be seen at her gallery: Santora Fine Art
23 Fletcher Street, Kennebunk, ME 04043. Her work has also been exhibited all over the United States and in France. She is represented by several Maine galleries. For an updated list please visit her website: www.carolsantora.com.

Statement
|
I love animals, I always have...
and painting them is my passion.
I study, sketch and photograph
all of the animals I paint,
whether they are favorite farm animals,
the exotic great cats, North American wildlife,
or one of the canine or feline locals.
Soft pastel is the perfect medium
for capturing the spirit
and personality of the animals I paint
and expressing my own personal vision.
