LUCIAN RICHARDS is a native of California. For many years he worked in various media, including photography, art glass, woodworking, and acrylics. Using various techniques and ideas from his experience, he is now creating wood collages, employing mixed media: wood shapes, mosaic tile, acrylic on canvas, and various other materials. Each collage is unique and original in design and color palette.
Inspiration for working in this medium came from the Art Deco Style of the early 20th century, as well as Lucian's work with photographing nature in its symmetry and color. In creating these wood pieces, that symmetry and color finds an outlet. The idea for a design comes in the process of combining the elements used in the collage. As the parts go together, inspiration for the various color combinations and wood shapes seems to come very naturally.
Lucian lives in Round Rock/Austin, TX, with his wife Melanie, a musician, recently moving to the area after spending five years in Flagstaff, Arizona, where he was a member of the Flagstaff Artists' Coalition and an exhibiting member of the Artists' Gallery. He has sold artwork throughout the country. As a member of the Sedona Arts Center, he was awarded second prize in the Mixed Media category at the juried 2008 Members' Show.
