Biography

Sylvia was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and from there traveled to many more places as her father was a career military man. This life of constant change, different cultures and environments would later influence her artwork as she does not focus on any one region. Also, having so many different homes while growing up has brought forth recurring themes that explore the diversity of homes and the many different habitats on Earth and elsewhere.

Statement

My paintings are all about nature. For me, everything in the natural world is interesting, from the depths of the oceans to the cloudscapes above. I like to experiment with all kinds of paint including metallic. While painting, I am not very precise I choose to work freely and use mostly my imagination. Very often, I do start with a sketch, but as the painting nears the finish, it looks very different from what I had planned. It is my ability to be open to such changes and my willingness to try new avenues that I am able to create my unique and colorful paintings.
