Statement

"Hello, I'm Pratibha Singh and I was born in Banarasi, a beautiful place in Uttar Pradesh. Since childhood I have been very fond of colors and fascinated by art. Even when I was in school, I participated in different art and painting exhibitions. I always wanted to work in the field of art but my parents were not too happy about it because art, as a profession, was not considered a good option then. I was also interested in teaching, so I acquired a Bachelor's degree in education. I taught for a while but I was not really happy. After graduation, I received my Master's degree in Art. I also took a certificate course in art appreciation from the National Museum in New Delhi and another through the Maharastra government.
"My interest in colors and painting was too strong to resist. I got married in 1986. My husband saw my talent and urged to create something new. He really encouraged me and finally, through his inspiration, I managed to begin painting full time. For a married woman to give full time to any profession is a difficult task, and I really appreciate my husband for believing in me.
"It was in 1990 that I began painting professionally and since then I have been creating working tirelessly. I prefer to portray day-to-day life where I mix my imagination with reality. For me the world is a school and each one of us a creation of God. I try to give positive and happy feelings to all my paintings.
"In the year 2000, I joined the faculty of an art school. Since then, I have come to better understand the meaning of painting."
