My Life has been an overwhelming, but fascinating journey. I have learned the importance of family, unconditional love and creativity during my journey. I have had a love for color (and using it) ever since I have been old enough to hold a crayon.
I was raised in the mean streets of Newark, NJ during the 60's where I witnessed strength in a movement, unity as a community, brutality between races and the collapse of a historical city. As a young adult, I became a product of my environment and a statistic. As I got older, I became wiser. I had a better understanding of the world and the opportunities that existed outside the walls of Newark. It was not until then that I got a knowledge of who am, a glimpse of who I can become and a vision on how to achieve my goals while on my life's journey. I have a very wide range of influences: my wife, Cynthia, John Coltrane, Willie Butler, Malcolm X, Russell Means, Picasso, Sitting Bull, Billie Holiday, Jacob Lawrence, Paul Gauguin and Joanne Shenandoah, just to name a few.
Because of this journey, I was able to create some paintings that you see before you today. They all reflect my Native American and Afro-American background along with my love for music. Every stroke, every color combination, every finished piece is a part of me, a part of my soul and part of my journey through life.
