Biography
I came to art through the back door. I graduated with a business degree and worked in sales, marketing, and retail management for 10 years. Throughout my life, I always painted at home and took art classes in college. I sold a few paintings and tried my hand at lots of mediums. After leaving the retail life I became a full-time decorative artist. I have been painting murals mostly in homes and have tried my hand at all types of faux finishes. While much of my livelihood comes from murals and decorative painting, my passion has always been painting on canvas with oils. During the past 15 years as a decorative artist, I have painted with oils on canvas in wine cellar walls and inside 30 foot high domes. I have also had numerous oil on canvas commissions. My work has been featured in Atlanta Magazine and Jezebel Magazine. I wrote a short how-to stenciling book that was published by Plaid Industries that sold in stores for several years. I also taught a nighttime class on perspective at a local community art school for 3 years. I have found great satisfaction in learning to paint what people want expressed.

Statement
I have always loved color. I finally discovered the pallet knife and found a way to apply my paints to give texture and interest. I have found I like the water based oils best for texture buildup, consistency and smooth application. I use color theory to make my colors come to life by painting first with a sienna wash, then a complimentary color from what I want in the end. Finally, I cover with the last coat and leave some of the undercoat showing. I find the joy in painting is doing it in such a way that the viewer wants to come into the picture with me. I try to put myself in the scene or remember myself viewing the scene and hope that my audience will feel the same as I do. Often I paint events that evoke a question like what is he doing? or where is she going? I like to tell a story by representing people with objects in nature. Leading the eye around the painting through carfully planned composition is also important to me. I strive to get the viewer to want to look more and more and never get tired.
