Biography

Juan Luis Quintana is a contemporary painter born in Barcelona, Spain. He has a BFA from the University of Barcelona and other studies: Phd coursework, courses in Computer Art at the Art Institute of Chigago, etc.
His Artworks are mostly abstraction using geometric forms, colors, and shapes related to nature.
He has had many shows during the last ten years in the States and Spain.

Statement

Circular Geometries
This is a world of ideal geometric shapes. Juan Luis Quintana overwhelms us with this primitive dimension ruled by the geometric form. Feeling is expressed by lines that are drawn rght into the texture of the painting.
These compositions are like landscapes where the light shines on the objects painted in soft monochromatic tones.
The forms are geometrical and the drawing are reminiscent of drawings made in the wet sand with a stick.
This caracter of the ridges in the texture of the painting creates a strong visual impace. In addition the expression of the lines breaks the imposition of the rigid geometrical forms to become more chaotic or unpredictible.
Some of the interesting titles of these series of paintings are for example: Eolorama -This painting is the vestige of an altar to the god of the wind called Eolos. Planispherium show us a primitive depiction of the meridians and paralels of our planet. Ovals suggest a level of spirituallity where the shape of a yellow oval is floatting in the background of the painting. Beyon the columns of the ultrmarine recreates an ancient myth were the land ends and the ocean lies beyond . Finisterrae in the ancien city of Gadir, Cadiz, Spain.
Circular geometries forms a very wide subject matter full of geometric and expressive forms inside a pictorical background.
