Biography
Rick Gallant (1965) - Canada Rick was born in Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada but has lived most of his life in Ottawa. He is a relative newcomer to the art scene. With no formal training and ambitious intentions, his formative years as an artist favoured pencil, pen and ink drawings. He was apprehensive about colour until seven years ago when he made the leap into acrylic painting. His style of painting is realism and his subject matter is beautiful landscapes and wildlife. His work has been collected by private collectors. He has exhibited in various areas in Canada. He is currently represented by the Pilar Shephard Gallery in Charlottetown, P.E.I., Canada. Rick has recently been awarded several Special Recognition Awards for his work. His work will also be published in Volume VI of International Contemporary Masters which is due for release in early 2013. The book will be available for sale at Amazon.com at the beginning of 2013. Statement
My passion for art comes from an innate desire to capture the boundless beauty of nature that surrounds us. With the effects of global warming and natural disasters, my planet is rapidly changing. For this reason, I seek to capture breathtaking images from every corner of the globe. Beauty can be found everywhere, from my own backyard to the other side of the world. Every region has its' own unique plant and wildlife, climate and geographical landscapes that continue to inspire me. My style is realism. I paint using acrylics and create depth by building layers. The colours I choose are true to the scene and I capture realism through shapes and fine details. To add more passion and dimension to my work, I use washes that allow the underlying layers to come through. Many of us take the splendour of our world for granted, yet I believe that it can be ours forever. My wish is to increase people's appreciation of the incredibly beautiful world we live in.
