Biography
Patrick Webster was born in Texas and grew up in a family that moved often. He lived in California, Oregon, Washington, Michigan and again in California. Sports was his major interest in high school, but he was always interested in art and was considering a major in art in college when the U.S. Army called. He served in Europe, the Far East and Viet Nam. He was wounded, and spent two years in an Army hospital. Once discharged, he went back to college, received an MFA from Washington State University, and worked with art professors who were painfully honest about examining and challenging why and how to go about making art. re the consequences of my process; and not necessarily ends in themselves. Concerning the practical processes of making art I am concerned with strength, color, structure, formal relationships, and deconstruction. My work is an attempt to reflect my observations, and thoughts. I'm interested in iconic irony, conflict, dogma, power, fear, humor, and death. The time I spent in Vietnam was an important event in my life. Since then I have been fortunate to live, work, study, and travel in Europe, Scandinavia, the Far East, and most recently Central America where I lived, and worked for 7 years. Statement
'My work is a reflection of my observations, curiosity about my environment, and contemporary art issues. For me, making art is confrontation. It's about creating chaos. Out of the chaos solutions emerge. The answers that evolve are the consequences of my process; and not necessarily ends in themselves. Concerning the practical processes of making art I am concerned with strength, color, structure, formal relationships, and deconstruction.
