Norma Poulos

Biography
Excerpt from 'Our World,' the publication of Artists United, written by Ken Bowman: 'Now my darlin's...' that's what you'll hear when one of the South's great artists takes up her brush to paint. And before the class is over, you'll hear it many more times, for it's the favorite saying of this Southern Belle. But her students don't mind, for they all love her and as far as they're concerned she can say whatever she wants, because she teaches them to paint like no one else can. With her great sense of humor, love of people and superb mastery of technique, this classy lady knows how to 'make it happen.' Norma is a nationally known artist/instructor and television teacher. Her experience in the art world spans thirty years. She has a studio in Forest Park, GA. where she teaches regular oil classes, other workshops and conducts in depth seminars. She travels nationwide teaching workshops and conducting Norma Poulos Certification Seminars. Norma has had four PBS television series entitled, 'Landscapes by Norma' and 'Painting With Norma.' She has nine instructional books and numerous videos on the market. She exhibits her work locally and nationally on a regular basis and has won numerous awards. She is a Charter Member and has served two terms on the Board of Directors of Artists United. Bob Ross, Joy of Painting carries a series of Norma Poulos teaching tapes, personally commissioned by Bob. NORMA IS BREAKING NEW GROUND WITH HER 'HOME STUDY KIT'. THIS BY-MAIL, IN DEPTH STUDY TEACHES THE STUDENT HOW TO CREATE PROFESSIONAL PAINTINGS. CERTIFICATION CREDENTIALS AWARDED AT COMPLETION. Statement
Artist Statement for Norma Poulos I wear many hats in the art field - artist, instructor, author and TV personality and enjoy all of them. I have nine instructional (How To) books, many painting packets and videos. My PBS TV series featured instructional painting in oil and acrylic. Regular classes, Creative Seminars and Portrait Seminars are taught in my Forest Park, GA studio. National and International students are taught through my "Norma Poulos Teacher's Home Study Course." My work spills over many techniques and mediums as I work with oils, acrylics and watercolors in the realistic, the impressionistic and creative realms. My Absolute Arts portfolio is composed of a Pot Pourri of techniques along with a sprinkling if portraits. Creative Seminars are structured toward overcoming artist's block, where paintings begin with no perceived notion of an outcome. Student's are taught to "Get Loose" by pouring paint onto the canvas or covering the canvas by pasting colored tissue papers then searching for shapes in the paint or paper to bring forth. Portrait Seminars are geared toward changing a photo image into a portrait by changing clothing, background, lighting, etc. in order to show his/her character. Jurying and Judging arts shows/exhibits is another hat I wear and one of my favorite duties. Recently, I was called on to judge entries from a large group to serve an apprenticeship with NALL in France. Being able to teach students in other countries through my home study course is especially rewarding as English is my only language. We comunicate though the language of ART (pictures) with homework through mail. My website has details www.normapoulos.com Commissions accepted.
