Statement
I was trained as a master printmaker, etching and engraving on zinc and copper, hand printing finely detailed images on the best papers. These prints were difficult and expensive to produce, and not very well received. With little kids running around the house, I gave away my etching press. As a substitute, I have been experimenting with computer software for about fifteen years, and have found that I am able to capture many of the aesthetic qualities of an etching while benefiting from the flexibility allowed by computer graphics. Although I do not claim that these pictures have the same value as a traditional print, they are my own originals, carefully and painstakingly drawn in the computer in high detail, printed as best as possible, and, more recently, made available as part of limited editions. While many have validly criticized me for turning away from the fine art of printmaking, all I can say is that I do not have easy access to an etching press, at my age I do not have the time and patience anymore to do this kind of work, and I do not miss breathing in that rich mixture of sulphuric acid, benzene and nitric acid, and having lovely and unremoveable particulate manner under my fingernails! On the other hand, there are some, not total idiots, who seem to like the detail, clarity of image, and expressiveness that I can bring to these computer prints. The pictures are not digital art in the sense that there is little in the way of computer enhancement going on here, just me drawing crazy pictures like I always have, and occasionally finding a few others who like them.
