Statement

My work consists of mainly black and white charcoal, ink, and watercolor drawings. In my smaller pieces, I hope to achieve a feeling of spontaneity, as though each piece is a moment serendipitously captured like a snapshot; the larger drawings carry a deeper sense of permanence and weight.
Combining remembered images with those culled from family photographs, I form cloudy representations of personal memories and feelings about the past. Ultimately, I hope this body of work speaks to the viewer of memory and loss through ambiguous, odd, or awkward landscapes. By working directly and spontaneously, I allow accidents and chance to contribute to my compositions and shape the work?Ts direction. I keep melodrama and sentimentality to a minimum, moving instead towards an understated emotional resonance.
