Biography
|
|
I am a freelance illustrator and fine artist, born and raised in The Wirral in Merseyside and now living in Falmouth in Cornwall. I studied Illustration at what was then Falmouth School of Art between 1991 - 1993 after doing my art and design foundation course in a local Wirral college. I developed my painting technique from studying the work of the impressionists and post-impressionists during this time, particularly the colour theory of Seurat and the way Monet applied his paint.

Statement

I work in an impressionist influenced painting technique on canvas board or stretched canvas. I build up colour in multiple layers to create optical mixes, and favour scenes with striking contrasts of light and shadow. My illustration work has encompassed greetings cards, book covers, magazines, advertising and packaging. My clients include Hallmark Cards, NatWest Bank and BBC Worldwide. I offer a popular portraits from photographs service and also enjoy producing pencil sketches.

Exhibitions

I have held 2 solo exhibitions, the most recent of which was a series of landscape paintings of and around Liverpool at Liverpool Academy of Arts in July 2003. My painting of Birkenhead Park was exhibited as a finalist in the NOT The Turner Prize exhibition 2003 at the Mall Galleries in London. I have also exhibited paintings at the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead and held a one-man show in the Domino Gallery in Liverpool in 1996. I exhibit at the annual Beatles exhibition at Liverpool Academy of Arts.
