Biography
|
|
Heather (Miller) Kanazawa was grew up in Pennsylvania. She attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a BFA in Painting in 2007. She went on to pursue an MA in Art Education, graduating in 2011. She has been in a number of shows, both local and internationally, and currently holds a teaching position as an adjunct instructor at Jamestown Community College in NY.

Statement

Painting to me is an investigation involving the subtle, common things in everyday life that one often misses, yet are so real that they cannot deny their existence. Subjects such as the jar of pickles lying on the counter beside a napkin or the landscape that is always prominent during the long drive to work. These subtleties truly influence us and are a part of our existence.
My process of painting evolves from past life experiences or objects that are meaningful to me. I am attracted to subjects that can invoke memories from past experiences that I strongly connect to. I create intimacy in my paintings through color, choosing subtle color and value shifts, as well as through subject matter. I show my process through imperfections in my paintings that seem to relate to the subject itself. My pieces are small in size in order to establish this intimacy with the viewer.
