Statement
I have always been artistically talented from a small child but I truly began to develop my skills from 1972 by teaching myself. My love of art has continued over the years making me determined to find time to experiment and develop throughout the `highs and lows' of also bringing up a large family of eight children! Using any scraps of paper or hardboard and even any blank sections of walls in my home, I sketched, drew and painted using pencil, oils and watercolours. Drawing from my life around me anyone and everything became the subject of my attention! I also used photographs of wild life from books for reference and then went on to use my own style and imagination to take the subject a step further form the original. As an admirer of many of the great artists I studied their works and copied them so I could understand the techniques and styles that could be used. I soon began to realise the importance of understanding the use of colour, composition, light and shadow to develop the illusion of depth, space and form. Within a couple of years I began selling my artwork to private buyers that visited my home and also began selling paintings placed in local shops and galleries. My skills have developed through experimenting, trial and error so that I am now able to express my self through my art using my memory bank without inhibition. I am also able paint and draw in great detail illustrating the complicity of nature. Throughout the years I have donated art for charitable events and worked voluntarily sharing my artistic skills within the school and nursery environment demonstrating the ability to teach through play and encouragement. In 2002-2003 I set up a website Access to Active Art that encouraged artists from all over the world to enter an International Open Art Competition. The 1st Prize of ?500 cash won by Jolanda Ritcher, from Austria, for a beautiful figurative painting. The 2nd Prize of ?200 artist's materials was won by Allison Sherburne, St Albans, England, with an amazing abstract piece. The website is no longer running as the project was becoming too large to handle with out any support. At this present time I am the Membership Secretary for the Herts Visual Forum and I am also in the process of developing workshops for youth projects and schools. The subject matter of the workshops will be flexible enough to fit into a school's curriculum or any group's specific needs. Mediums Acrylics, Canvas, Collage, Coloured Pencil, Drawing, Gouache, Mixed Media, Oils, Pastels, Pencil/Charcoal, Watercolour, Watercolour Pencil Subjects Abstract, Animals, Expressionism, Figure, Illustration, Impressionism, Landscape, Old Masters, Portrait, Still Life, Wildlife
