about the artist
John "Furly" Travis is a native Texas painter and sketch artist. He began sketching in junior high school, and began painting seriously in 1994. During his fourteen years of painting, he has developed a unique style using bold color and a strong sense of visual balance coupled with often dreamlike, sometimes comic themes. Working almost exclusively in acrylics allows Furly to work prolifically, and to date he has sold over two hundred paintings and sketches, been commissioned to create eight different pieces for collectors, and commissioned to paint two skateboard designs for a small central Texas company called A-Minus. His worked has showed in art spaces all over central Texas, from galleries to boutiques and coffee houses.
Furly's comics and sketches appeared regularly for many years in the Proper Gander, San Marcos' own art publication that traveled nationwide to reach art audiences. He was also the subject for the annual Proper Gander Furly Portrait Contest, in which the winner got a self portrait by Furly.
Furly has lived most of his life in San Marcos, TX, where he paints, sketches, records his own music, and tackles other creative endeavors. He is also a loving husband, proud father, happy pet owner, and loves to enjoy the San Marcos River with his family.

IN SAN MARCOS I PAINTED A CATUS PLANTER AND NOW THE TOWN WANT TO SCREEN IT FROM THE PUBLIC GRANTED THE CANVAS WAS A JUCKED CAR .. SAN MARCOS TEXAS DOES NOT APPREACHATE ART IN ANY FORM THAT THEY HAD NO PART IN CHOOSEING..
