Statement
|
The subjects of my work reference life and my experiences. My work is not intended to be representational; rather the colors, textures, lines, and shapes that I use are based on my formal understanding of aesthetics. Layers play an important role in my compositions. I believe that much like the way converging lines on a 2D surface create an illusion of space so do the layered edges of certain opposing shapes, complementary colors, and varied textures. I am fascinated by the way we humans perceive and interpret our world. I am excited and propelled by moments of clarity that come while working towards a further understanding of this layered phenomena. I draw influence from a multitude of interests ranging from physics, graffiti, engineering, fashion, contemporary masters, indie rock, skateboarding, gardening, and others. My goal is to one day earn a living my family and I as a full-time studio artist.
